The Spring Cleanse

April 1, 2008

It might not feel like it just yet, but Spring is just about ready to explode.  After a record-breaking winter, most of us are eager with anticipation for the green months ahead.

.

The winter months can be a stagnant time for many aspects of our lives.  When spring finally arrives most of us celebrate by doing our spring cleaning.  Okay, celebrate might be a little bit of a stretch!

What many of us don’t realize is that spring is also a great time to do some cleansing within our bodies.  Not just the regular soapy bath sort of cleansing, but a dietary cleanse.

.

The word “cleanse” can be intimidating for many people.  At first it might seem like a daunting task, but the rewards are well worth it.  If you have never cleansed before, you will likely have a large build-up of unwanted toxins in the body.  Cleansing will leave you feeling lighter, and more energized.

Cleansing can be simple and easy if you have the right tools.  Cleansing consists of two parts:  supplementation and diet.  The supplementation part is easy, most products on the market today come in packages that include all of the products you need.

The diet part can be a bit trickier.  There are some food limitations during a cleanse, which is a great opportunity to try out some new recipes!

To help get your body on the right track this spring, Lumina is offering a special Herbal D-Tox Package.  The package includes 4 cleansing supplements along with a Cleansing Cookbook!

Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox

This two week “Detox In A Box” is the perfect cleanse for beginners and veterans alike.  And the cleanse-friendly cookbook will help you to prepare delicious meals that will support your cleanse and help you achieve optimal results.  This package is available for $39.95 while quantities last.**

.

If you’re serious about cleansing this spring, you can achieve even better results when you combine this gentle herbal cleanse with acupuncture therapy.  Acupuncture promotes circulation and blood flow to remove any blockages or stagnation within the body.

Your body is the vehicle that you ride around in for your entire life.  Just like any car, maintenance is the key to longevity.  Take care of your body, and your body will take care of you!

Acupuncture to Lose Weight

January 4, 2008

Acupuncture for weight loss treatments involve inserting tiny hair-thin needles in particular spots on the skin to help the overall functioning of the body.

In weight loss, acupuncture actually stimulates the body to release natural pain-relieving chemicals known as endorphins. These chemicals are also known to be natural appetite suppressants, helping you resist cravings and to stick with your diet plan. Where the acupuncture needles are inserted on your body will vary greatly depending on your needs and conditions.  Depending on whether the excessive weight is caused by behavioral or physiological issues. The acupuncturist will ask you questions to determine the main cause of your excessive weight and will then insert needles into the spots of the body that will help address or counter those problems. The needles are said to release more energy and make your body function better to promote weight loss. Acupuncture can give you the boost to exercise more, and eat less for example.

Can Acupuncture Help Depression?

January 4, 2008

By Dr. Blaise Ryan

Today, more than 28 million Americans are taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs.  That number is almost the entire population of Canada!  In 1998, doctors wrote more than 130 million prescriptions for anti-depressants.  This is not a simple case of the blues, these numbers liken it to an epidemic.

According to the Physicians’ Desk Reference, the top antidepressant drugs only address signs and symptoms associated with depression.  And can cause a variety of side effects, including:

·         insomnia,

·         anxiety,

·         listlessness,

·         fatigue,

·         body rash,

·         tremors,

·         facial tics,

·         diarrhea,

·         loss of appetite,

·         sexual dysfunction,

·         And Many more

Depression alone is stressful enough on the body – and while medications may provide temporary relief, they can cause further health damages.

On top of that, antidepressants don’t ever cure depression.  Most of the time, if you want to get off of antidepressants you will be faced with the same feelings that brought you to the medication in the first place.

How Acupuncture Can Help You?

By incorporating thousands of years of experience in treating depression, acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are one of the safest, most natural and tested options available to you.  Not only can your symptoms of depression be alleviated, but the underlying root causes of your feelings can be addressed as well.

We are aware of the powerful and inseperable interplay between our body and emotions.  When we experience emotional upset, our internal environment also becomes disrupted.  Likewise, when we experience physical problems, are emotions are greatly affected.

Over time, this disruption leads to what Chinese medicine calls “stagnant or depressed Qi”.  Qi is roughly translated as vital energy.  This diagnosis of stagnant Qi is unique to Chinese medicine.

Eventually the stagnant Qi leads to a disharmony within our body occurs, affecting our physical and emotional well-being.  If not properly treated, this imbalance may lead to depression.

How Will We Help You?

During your first visit, our doctor will take a complete health history in order to evaluation where, why and how your Qi has stagnated or depressed.  Once this is determined an individual treatment plan will be tailored to your needs and specific symptoms.

The goal of your treatment plan will be to activate the movement of Qi throughout your entire body.  Also, our focus will be to address the root causes of your underlying imbalances.

By treating your body as a whole and unique organism, acupuncture can support recovery from illness and disease and move towards health and happiness.

Key Points to Remember Throughout Your Acupuncture Treatments:

  1. Acupuncture is not a magic pill.  You may require weeks or months of treatment in order to see lasting results.  Give yourself as much time as you need so that you can experience the maximum benefits that Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture have to offer.
  2. Surround yourself with positivity.  Support yourself with people whom you trust, who will encourage you and give you objective and unbiased insight.  Avoid listening, reading and watching negative news.  Especially before bed as this can affect your subconscious before sleep.
  3. Breathe, go slow, and think things through.  Don’t make too many life changes all at once.  Unless you are really fed up and hungry for a dramatic shift.  Make sure you don’t bite off more than you can chew.  You don’t want to overwhelm your emotions.
  4. Try to get at least 20 minutes of simple exercise at least 3 days a week.  Take a daily walk, breathe deeply and let it all go.
  5. Remember you are not alone.  Others are having similar experiences.  Reach out to people who are in a better place than you and who will honestly support you.
  6. Smile (and seek laughter)
