Banish Cellulite for Good!

Revolutionary Acupuncture to Treat Cellulite

Cellulite is the #1 complaint for approximately 90% of women worldwide!  These bumps and dimples may plague you regardless of your physical fitness or personal lifestyle.  Creams and ointments promise big results, but leave us disappointed when they don’t deliver.  You can work out every day, but in the end it may not make much of a difference.

Just when you thought you were stuck with that cellulite forever…

Lumina offers an alternative that is not only effective, but will also help boost your metabolism and energy at the same time.  Proven effective solutions for permanent results!

Cellulite is actually blocked and damaged tissue.  Blood flow to these blocked areas decreases, and the tissue receives less nourishment.  As a result these areas have weak connective tissue, poor circulation and a build-up of excess toxins.  Breaking up these areas of stagnation is an extremely effective treatment in decreasing cellulite.  Dr. Roxanne Chabidon has perfected a system that will break up blockages, restore healthy blood flow and repair damaged skin tissue.  The results have been fantastic!

Dr. Chabidon will also educate you on what you can do to prevent cellulite from building up in the future, and help you maintain your healthy, radiant skin.  Preventative maintenance is the key to long-lasting success when it comes to the health of your skin.

Can That Nightcap: How Alcohol Disturbs Sleep (and your skin)

November 13, 2007

Since sleep and rejuvenation of the skin and the entire body go hand in hand. It is essential that we do whatever we can to enhance your sleep experience. One important way to do that is to make sure you never drink alcohol on an empty stomach and that you remain properly hydrated before bed.

A few alcoholic drinks in the evening may initially make you drowsy, but eventually the alcohol precipitates a burst of noreepinephrine, a hormone-like neurotransmitter secreted in response to excitement or stress. Hours after taking a drink, a burst of noreepinephrine can disrupt your sleep cycle or even cause you to wake up. This not only causes a poor night’s sleep, but will also leave your skin looking molted and dull the next day.

The Best Omega from Skin Hydration

October 29, 2007

By: Dr. Allan Fradsham

WHAT’S THE BEST OIL TO KEEP YOUR SKIN HEALTHY N’ HYDRATED?

Let’s first look at the anatomy of the skin… Each skin cell is wrapped with a bi-lipid layer. (That’s doctor talk for a fat bubble!) This fat is comprised of Omega-3 fatty acids. The fat layer serves as a barrier to keep all of the nutrition and fluids within the cell. One of the key roles of this fat layer is to keep your cells hydrated.

To keep this layer of fat in good health, you need to take in a high level of Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. These can only be taken in through diet. The body can’t make them. So you should eat foods high in these fatty acids such as fish, flax, and hemp. However, I would say that even a balanced diet isn’t enough to realistically fulfill your body’s daily Omega requirements. That being said, I highly recommend taking a supplement, and the best that I know of is Krill oil (Antarctic shrimp). It has a very high amount of beneficial oils and is highly absorbable by the body. The only caution with Krill oil would be for people who are allergic to shellfish.

The main thing that weakens your cellular fat walls are free radicals. Although Krill oil is the best thing to build up the fat walls, you also have to minimize the damage. The best way to do that is by taking in a lot of antioxidants, which help to battle and neutralize free radicals. Antioxidant-rich foods include green tea, turmeric, pomegranates, fresh berries, leafy greens, and other brightly coloured vegetables and fruits. But again, it’s hard to get a high enough dose to really help with serious free radical damage, so a supplement is very beneficial to help you get the levels of antioxidants that you require.

At Lumina, we have a few that we have found to be of very high quality, and we’re happy to tell you about them if you’re interested in finding out more. Call us at 613-216-2135

The Power of Pears

October 29, 2007

By: Dr. Blaise Ryan

Pears are the best fruit to eat in the fall. In Chinese medicine, autumn is the dry season, and it’s associated with the lungs, your skin, hair and large intestine. And when the humidity drops and the air becomes drier, your lungs, skin, hair and large intestine are the first to be negatively affected. That’s why it’s common for people to experience dry throats, coughing , allergies, dry lips, constipation, dandruff, and dry skin during the fall.

Pears are incredibly moistening and rehydrating, and according to Chinese medicine, they moisten and nourish your lungs primarily. They are also cooling in nature, which means they are good at reducing inflammation. And as you may or may not know, inflammation is one of the main causes of aging and wrinkles, not to mention 95% of all health problems.

So eat a lot of pears. The juicier the better. If you’re feeling dry – dry skin, throat, eyes, nose–then eat 3-5 pears per day. This is especially the case if you get a dry cough – just keep eating them! You can eat them raw or even steam them. When they’re raw, they’re better for reducing inflammation, and when they’re steamed, they’re better at hydrating your body.

A few more moistening and hydrating autumn foods are:

· Rice or oat gruel, sesame seeds, carrots, soy milk, weak green tea, and sweet potatoes. Also, ask one of your Lumina doctors for a special fall herbal tonic to help you prepare for the approaching winter.

The Warrior’s Way to Anti-Aging

June 22, 2007

It was the Ancient Toltec Warriors, who uncovered the 4 spiritual enemies of humans.

The first enemy is “Fear”. And according to the Toltec Tradition, the majority of people are paralyzed from achieving happiness, health and wealth by this fatal enemy.

The second enemy is “Clarity”. This enemy is only encountered when the spiritual warrior overcomes the first enemy. Clarity is defined as the ability to assess every situation in your life for its potential to increase your personal power. Simply put, with clarity, you will know why you are attracting every instance in your life, and how to make the most out of it. Clarity can become an enemy because people are easily deceived into believing that they can understand everything. Arrogance sets in and dooms the spiritual seeker.

The third enemy is “Power”. After overcoming Fear and Clarity, the spiritual seeker begins to court true personal power. And as the warriors say, “your word becomes law in the universe”. It is here, at the foot of the third enemy, that many people lose the battle. Succumbing to power over others, they lose sight of their true goal, which is to allow power to flow through us. The first approach leads to enslavement, the second to freedom.

The final enemy is “Old Age”. This enemy is constantly creeping up on all of us. Some begin to show the wear and tear of old age relatively young. I call this “pre-mature and accelerated aging”. Old Age is deterioration. It is the slow death and destruction of your holy temple –the destruction of your body.

The Ancient Chinese Taoists knew that the final enemy would sneak up on them. So they developed all kinds of longevity practices. From qigong exercises to herbal tonics.

The cold truth is this: Even if we overcome Fear, move beyond Clarity and let Power flow through us, Old Age can still, and will eventually, take us out. And if you don’t begin to actively battle against the deteriorating effects of aging, you will be defeated before you even realize you are in battle.

This is the Warrior’s Way. The warrior never takes an instant for granted. Because the Warrior knows that the only guarantee in life is that death will sometime come. The Warrior’s motto is simple:

“Live the present to the fullest, and build your energy for the future.

The Ancient Toltecs lived by a law called The Law of Light and Reflection. This law says that the world is your mirror. It says that your external actions and circumstances reflect your internal state. It is similar to, but not the same as, The Law of Attraction. It also supports the Chinese Medical view that the inside is reflected on the outside.

Therefore, when your face or body is showing signs of aging. You must begin to fight it. If you don’t the aging process will defeat you.

In the movie The Secret (which I highly recommend), the Law of Attraction is clearly defined as saying that when you push against something, you add to it. This is true. It follows the saying of: “What You Focus On Expands.”

Remember, aging is nothing more than deterioration. Aging is not simply the mathematical equation of adding one year to your identity every 12 months. The only way to fight the signs of aging is to go to the cause. Popular invasive procedures such as Botox®, fight the signs, but add to the aging process through traumatizing your facial muscles and injecting toxins into your skin.

So, here’s the advice I give our patients: Fight aging by focusing on your health. Make self-energization your enjoyable obsession. Don’t worry if you’re tired. According to the Warrior’s Way, be grateful that you’re breathing. Because when the moment that your death comes to take you, it will have all seemed to go by so quickly.

In the meantime, while you are still breathing, if you aren’t 100% satisfied with your life, your health and your skin’s appearance, then take action. Take arms and begin fighting the 4th enemy of humanity – old age, no matter how old you are now.

In researching the art and science of longevity, rejuvenation and anti-aging, I’ve discovered that there are 21 Secrets to the Fountain of Youth. You can click here to get a special report on 13 of the 21 secrets of the Fountain of Youth.

One of the most important secrets is to have a health and rejuvenation advisor. Today, there are thousands of health practitioners from every walk of life, advising hundreds of different methods and systems. Plus the tens of thousands of books, which often recommend contradicting advice.

To clear the fog of confusing choices, here is what you need:

  1. Physical treatments (acupuncture, massage)
  2. Dietary recommendations
  3. Herbal and Supplement plans
  4. Postural and muscular alignment exercise program (qigong, yoga, pilates)
  5. Psycho-emotional and Spiritual guidance
  6. Skin Care evaluation and plan

These are 6 out of the 21 Secrets of the Fountain of Youth. At Lumina, we work to start you with these 6 fundamentals, and guide you towards mastering all 21 secrets. Using the 5,000 year-tested foundation of Ancient Chinese Medicine, all 21 secrets harmoniously complement each other. Our doctors of Chinese medicine use this ancient health science to slow, stop and reverse the aging process.
